The NEBOSH General Certificate course runs for 10 days of training, followed by a 1-day open book exam (OBE).

NEBOSH National General Certificate Assessment

The NEBOSH General Certificate course includes two assessments, one for each unit:

Unit GNC1 – Open Book Exam
Format: Online, open-book exam
Duration: 24 hours to complete
Content: A set of questions based on real-life workplace scenarios
Pass Mark: Minimum 45 marks required

Unit GNC2 – Practical Risk Assessment
Format: A practical risk assessment carried out in the learner’s workplace
Includes: Development of an action plan to improve health and safety practices
Grading: Pass or Refer

NEBOSH General Certificate Grading (Based on GNC1 exam score)
Pass: 45-64 marks
Credit: 65-74 marks
Distinction: 75+ marks

To achieve the NEBOSH General Certificate, you must pass both GNC1 and GNC2 assessments.

• Develop basic safe systems of work, including emergency considerations, and understand when to apply permit-to-work systems for high-risk tasks.
• Participate in incident investigations.
• Assist their employer in assessing the effectiveness of their health and safety management system through monitoring, audits, and reviews.
