Additional Course Information

Practical First Aid Skills for the Workplace

When an accident or medical emergency happens at work, the first few minutes can make a real difference.

The Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course from SM Safety Training & Consultancy Ltd is designed to give learners the confidence and practical ability to take action when somebody becomes injured or suddenly unwell.

The course is ideal for organisations wanting employees who can remain calm, assess what is happening and provide immediate first aid until further medical assistance arrives where required.

Our approach is practical, straightforward and focused on the types of situations learners could genuinely encounter in the workplace.

Build Confidence to Respond

First aid training is not just about remembering information.

In a real emergency, employees need to feel confident enough to step forward and use what they have learned.

That is why our Emergency First Aid at Work training places a strong emphasis on practical participation. Learners are encouraged to get involved, practise their skills and develop the confidence needed to respond effectively under pressure.

By the end of the training, learners should have a clearer understanding of their role during a workplace first aid emergency and feel better prepared to take appropriate action.

Supporting Your Workplace First Aid Arrangements

Having appropriately trained employees forms an important part of effective workplace first aid provision.

The Emergency First Aid at Work course can help organisations strengthen their existing arrangements by developing employees who understand how to respond if somebody needs immediate assistance.

Training can support businesses by helping to:

  • Improve employee confidence during emergencies
  • Strengthen workplace first aid arrangements
  • Develop practical emergency response skills
  • Support a positive health and safety culture
  • Give employees greater confidence to step forward and help
  • Reduce uncertainty when accidents or sudden illness occur
  • Demonstrate an organisation’s commitment to employee wellbeing

Employers should consider their own workplace risks, activities and workforce when deciding what level of first aid provision is appropriate.

Practical and Engaging Training

At SM Safety Training, we believe first aid is best learned through participation.

Our instructors combine clear explanations with demonstrations, practical activities and workplace examples so learners can apply what they are learning rather than simply listening to a presentation.

The training environment is supportive and relaxed, giving learners the opportunity to ask questions, practise techniques and build confidence throughout the course.

Our aim is for learners to leave feeling that they could actually use their first aid skills if they were ever needed.

In-House Emergency First Aid Training

For organisations with several employees requiring training, we can deliver the course directly at your workplace.

In-house training can provide a convenient and cost-effective option, particularly where releasing employees to travel to an external training venue would create unnecessary disruption.

Benefits can include:

  • Reduced employee travel
  • Less time away from the workplace
  • Training several employees together
  • Dates arranged around operational requirements
  • Familiar surroundings for learners
  • Opportunities to relate discussions to your own workplace
  • A shared approach to emergency response across your team

SM Safety Training can provide in-house training for organisations across the UK.

Training That Makes a Difference

We do not believe first aid training should simply be treated as another box to tick.

The real value of the course is knowing that if an employee, colleague, customer or visitor suddenly needs help, someone nearby has the confidence to respond.

The knowledge and practical experience gained during Emergency First Aid at Work training can help learners feel better prepared for situations they hopefully never have to face.
