What the Regulations Say
Work at Height Regulations 2005
- Equipment used for working at height must be inspected at suitable intervals
- Inspections must be carried out by a competent person
- Records must be kept until the next inspection and be made available to enforcement authorities
PUWER Regulation 6 – Inspection Requirements
- After installation or relocation
- At regular intervals where deterioration may pose a risk
- After exceptional events (e.g. damage, modification, or change in use)

Ladders must be inspected by someone who:
- Understands the equipment
- Knows what faults to look for
- Can decide what action to take if a problem is found
