Keeping your workplace first aid training up to date is an important part of protecting your employees and maintaining effective health and safety arrangements.
Having trained and confident first aiders means that when an accident, injury or medical emergency occurs, someone is available to respond quickly and appropriately. Early intervention can prevent a situation from becoming more serious and, in some circumstances, can make a life-saving difference.
Effective first aid provision can also help reduce the impact of workplace incidents, support employees following an injury and minimise unnecessary disruption to your organisation.
At SM Safety Training & Consultancy Ltd, we provide practical workplace first aid training designed to give your employees the knowledge, skills and confidence to respond when it matters.
Our popular First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid at Work courses provide employees with the practical skills required to deal with a range of workplace accidents and emergencies.
Our courses are delivered by experienced instructors and combine clear, straightforward learning with practical exercises and realistic workplace scenarios.
We believe first aid training should be engaging and hands-on. Rather than simply sitting through a presentation, learners are encouraged to practise the skills they may one day need to use in a real emergency.
We can also tailor our training to suit your organisation, workplace and operational requirements.
Whether you need to train a small team or a larger group of employees, contact SM Safety Training to discuss the most suitable option for your business.
For organisations looking to train several members of staff, we can deliver first aid training directly at your workplace.
On-site training can be particularly cost-effective for organisations with six or more employees who require the same training.
Bringing the instructor to you can also make organising training much easier and allows us to understand the environment in which your employees actually work.
Benefits of workplace training include:
Where suitable, we can also discuss alternative training venues if your premises do not have an appropriate space for the course.

Our Level 3 First Aid at Work (FAW) course is a comprehensive workplace first aid qualification designed to give learners the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to respond to a wide range of injuries and medical emergencies at work.
It is particularly suitable for organisations where a first aid needs assessment identifies the need for employees to hold the full First Aid at Work qualification.
The course is delivered over 3 days. HSE guidance states that First Aid at Work training should be conducted over a minimum of three days.
The course includes a combination of instructor-led learning, demonstrations, practical activities and assessments.
The course is suitable for employees who are going to become designated workplace first aiders, as well as managers, supervisors and others who may have responsibility for responding to workplace emergencies.
Employers should determine the appropriate level of first aid training through their workplace first aid needs assessment, taking account of their activities, workforce and workplace risks.
The course provides learners with a broad range of practical first aid skills and knowledge.
Training includes areas such as:
There is a strong practical element throughout the course so learners have the opportunity to practise the skills they are learning.
Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) is a shorter course covering the essential skills required to respond to common workplace first aid emergencies.
First Aid at Work (FAW) provides more comprehensive training and prepares learners to deal with a wider range of injuries, illnesses and workplace emergencies. HSE recognises both EFAW and FAW when employers are deciding the appropriate level of first aid training following their needs assessment.
A First Aid at Work certificate is valid for 3 years.
Before the certificate expires, the first aider will need to undertake the appropriate requalification training to obtain a further three-year certificate.
Yes. Learners will be assessed to ensure they can demonstrate the knowledge and practical skills required to successfully complete the qualification.
Our instructors will explain the assessment process throughout the course and give learners plenty of opportunity to practise before being assessed.
No previous first aid qualification or experience is normally required to attend our Level 3 First Aid at Work course.
The three-day programme develops your knowledge and practical skills progressively, with support from your instructor throughout the course.
The level of first aid provision required will depend on your organisation’s first aid needs assessment.
Employers must provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel so employees can receive immediate attention if they are injured or become ill at work.
Factors such as the type of work undertaken, workplace hazards, number of employees and working arrangements should all be considered when determining your requirements.
Regular refresher training is recommended to help first aiders maintain their knowledge, practical skills and confidence.
HSE advises employers to keep first aid training up to date through regular refresher courses.
This can be particularly valuable where a first aider fortunately has little opportunity to use their skills between qualifications.

Completed the NEBOSH Managing Stress course online with SM Safety Training & Consultancy Ltd. This course was a lot more straight forward and easy compared to the other courses, would recommend completing the NEBOSH General first. However, the instructor kept the trainees engaged, the impact showed as the exam results were high for all.Posted on Google andrew duncanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. having done the NEBOSH General course previously with the guys at SM and knowing the way they work made this course much easier to take in, Steve was very good at adapting the learning style to how I take in the knowledge. I would highly recommend.
