This qualification is for those that require additional training in basic life support and safe use of an AED. Many attendees are those working in environments that have an AED available, such as Gyms and public places such as shopping centres, transport hubs etc. The qualification can also be used by staff working in Doctors and Dentists practice as part of annual training.
The qualification has also been designed as the perfect add-on to standard first aid courses.
When somebody suffers a cardiac arrest, having an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) available is only part of the solution. People also need the confidence and practical ability to use it correctly.
The QNUK Level 3 Award in Responding to Incidents with an AED (RQF) is designed to develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to respond confidently when an AED may be required.
Delivered by SM Safety Training & Consultancy Ltd, this regulated qualification combines practical emergency response skills with guidance on the safe and effective use of an AED.
The course is particularly suitable for organisations that already have an AED within their workplace and want employees to feel confident using it if an emergency occurs.
AEDs are designed to be straightforward to use, but an emergency situation can still be extremely stressful.
Our training gives learners an opportunity to practise responding in a controlled and supportive environment before they are ever required to do so for real.
Rather than simply explaining how an AED operates, the course considers the wider emergency response, helping learners understand what needs to happen from the moment a casualty is discovered through to handing over to the emergency services.
Practical training helps learners become familiar with the equipment and understand how AED use fits alongside CPR and other lifesaving actions.
More organisations are installing AEDs within workplaces and public environments.
However, having the equipment available is most effective when employees know where it is located, understand how it should be used and feel confident stepping forward during an emergency.
The qualification can support organisations by helping to:
The qualification can typically be delivered over half a day.
It can also be delivered as an additional element alongside a full first aid course, making it a flexible option for organisations looking to incorporate AED training into their wider first aid programme.
The qualification includes approximately 3 guided learning hours, with a total qualification time of approximately 5 hours.
Additional content can also be discussed where required, although extra delivery time may need to be allocated.
The course has been developed around recognised training requirements and UK Resuscitation Council protocols.
Learners develop practical skills associated with responding to an emergency, including assessing a casualty, CPR, recovery position and the safe use of an AED.
The focus is not simply on pressing buttons on a defibrillator. Learners develop an understanding of the complete response and how to use an AED safely as part of an emergency situation.
Learners are assessed through a combination of:
This allows learners to demonstrate both their knowledge and their practical ability to respond appropriately.
Successful learners receive a certificate for the QNUK Level 3 Award in Responding to Incidents with an AED (RQF).
The qualification is valid for 1 year.
SM Safety Training & Consultancy Ltd can deliver AED training directly at your workplace for group bookings.
This can be particularly useful for organisations that already have defibrillators installed and want several employees trained together.
In-house training can help organisations develop a consistent approach to emergency response while reducing employee travel and disruption.
It also gives learners the opportunity to discuss how AED provision fits into their own workplace arrangements.
At SM Safety Training & Consultancy Ltd, we believe lifesaving skills need to be practised, not simply explained.
Our AED training is practical, supportive and focused on helping learners develop genuine confidence.
When you train with us, you can expect:
Our aim is for learners to leave knowing not only how an AED works, but feeling confident enough to step forward and use one if somebody’s life depends on it.
Whether you are looking to train an individual employee, add AED training to an existing first aid course or train a group at your workplace, SM Safety Training & Consultancy Ltd can help.

Completed the NEBOSH Managing Stress course online with SM Safety Training & Consultancy Ltd. This course was a lot more straight forward and easy compared to the other courses, would recommend completing the NEBOSH General first. However, the instructor kept the trainees engaged, the impact showed as the exam results were high for all.Posted on Google andrew duncanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. having done the NEBOSH General course previously with the guys at SM and knowing the way they work made this course much easier to take in, Steve was very good at adapting the learning style to how I take in the knowledge. I would highly recommend.
